We spoke to Mikkel Bo Hansen, founder and CSO, Cercare Medical to find out a bit more about the company. Blackford: What is your mission? Mikkel Bo Hansen: Cercare Medical is a spin-out from Aarhus University Hospital and is a result of more than 20 years of research in perfusion imaging and Artificial Intelligence. It has been discovered that capillary dysfunction plays a great role in brain tissue oxygenation. We wanted to bring the results of this research to life by developing innovative perfusion imaging solutions that accounted for capillary function and integrity and could quickly provide healthcare professionals with a more accurate picture of tissue viability. Blackford: Tell us about the Cercare products . Mikkel Bo Hansen: Our CE-approved portfolio covers CERCARE Perfusion and CERCARE Stroke. The solutions are fully automated and are powered by AI for providing decision support in complicated or time-critical disorders like acute ischemic stroke. We have put a special focus on making our solutions as optimized for the radiology workflow as possible. Both CERCARE Perfusion and CERCARE Stroke provide great flexibility while automating a range of processes to maximize the time available for image interpretation. Blackford: What value do your products deliver? Mikkel Bo Hansen: Our goal is to provide healthcare professionals with tools that are fast, easy-to-use, and able to present the relevant information in an intuitive way to clinicians. Indeed, the ultimate goal that we inexhaustibly strive for is to provide clinicians with the insights needed to guide their teams in choosing the most optimal treatment for each individual patient quickly and robustly. Blackford: What sets you apart from everyone else? Mikkel Bo Hansen: Our solutions are based on many years of research. We have a solid background in medical imaging, perfusion, diffusion, and machine learning research, which is a key driver in our approach to solving clinical problems. This is perhaps best illustrated by the extensive list of papers published in peer-reviewed journals showcasing the impact our technology and biomarkers can have on brain CT and MRI interpretation when assessing, for example, brain tumor progression, evaluating acute stroke lesions, or assessing adrenoleukodystrophy cases.
